What’s the cheapest way of adding a s-video input to my PC?
I want to connect my Virgin (Telewest) digital cable box to my pc using a scart (to s-video) lead so that i can watch TV on my pc. I don’t need a PVR (planner) or anything else like that but i do need to be able to capture reasonably good quality video to avi/mpeg files. I have looked into buying a TV tuner card with s-video input and although this would work, i’m sure there’s a cheaper option because i don’t need the ‘tuner’ capability (just scart input).
If someone could suggest the appropriate hardware and software it would be really useful. I don’t mind shelling-out a bit more for the software if it will make things easier and/or better quality.

Tuner cards are pretty cheap, especially if they don’t have hardware encoding. Hauppauge.com has pretty decent cards.
Some capture only cards exist out there, but they are usually a little more expensive because they target the higher end.
Dazzle used to make some usb capture devices, and I used to have a nice mpeg1 board that I bought for 30 bucks on ebay, but they don’t make them any more.
