Logitech Z-5500 Help?

Okay I bought the Z-5500 5.1 digital thx certified. I saw all these videos of the sub hittin so I was expecting poundin music. When I hooked it up, its wierd, its like some songs come powerful ( from all speakers) and some only come from 2. I am thinking that my laptop doesnt support dolby 5.1 digital. because even when I get it to come from all the speakers the sub still doesnt hit like a 10″ sub to me. Maybe also its beacuse I had to plug it in “direct” from laptop couldnt use those 3 colored cords on the control panel, So I am thinking that I might have to hook the Z-5500 to my 23″ Samsung HDTV or my PS3 I think they both fully support 5.1 dolby digital ( some channels say 5.1 dolby digital on my tv) I havent tried yet because my room is cramped but when I move to my dorm I will try and I hope it works. Yall think im right? that my laptop doesnt support 5.1 dolby digital?

You are kinda right. It could be that MP3’s do not have mega bass capabilities. And, most “recorded” mp3’s do not provide surround sound.

I have a black boarder on yellow dog linux on my ps3 i want to make it full screen how do i. THANKS?

I have an HDTV

Depends on your TV. Chances are your install is picking a standard resolution close to your TV’s native resolution. For example if it is a 720p TV it is probably going with 1280×728.

Since 720p is actually 1340×768 resolution, that will leave a border. That part is something you’re probably gonna have to live with, since PC’s traditionally have used 1280×768 instead. That includes just about all linux distros and video applications. If you look into it, there may be a way to modify XWindows to change resolution to 1340×768, but make sure you know what you’re doing if you try. Since it would involve modifying xorg.cfg, back up that file first.

I have a much easier way of dealing with this: My TV has a zoom button on the remote. I can use this button to toggle between standard view; fill view, which stretches the image in one direction until it fills the screen; and zoom, which enlarges the image until it fills the screen. Most HDTV’s have a function like this. I use “fill” which alters aspect ratio but only very slightly.
