digital television setup
Do I need a dvd recorder with a digital tuner if I have cable(no cable box)?

I have WOW! cable(no cable box) and a tuner in my television. when I had my old dvd recorder, I could put the cable cord from the wall into my dvd recorder and then connected another cord from my dvd recorder to my tv and I also connected the rca cables from my dvd recorder to my tv. I was hoping to setup my new dvd recorder the EXACT SAME WAY.

PLEASE JUST ANSWER THE QUESTIONS BELOW WITH SIMPLE RESPONSES

1. According to the information I mentioned above, do I need a digital tuner to record the cable channels that I already have? (I don’t care if I watch what Im recording)

2.According to the information I mentioned above, will I be able to get and record more channels than I now have with my basic cable because of a digital tuner? (I don’t care if I don’t, I just want to know)

1. You need a digital tuner to watch a show while recording another show so it isn’t required with or without cable to record your regular programming

2. No, you would not be able to get more channels, you need a cable box for that. Sorry.

Hope the helps!!!

UK Question: Which devices let you record Freeview television?

I own an LCD TV with a built it Freeview receiver. I basically want to know of any devices that let you record Freeview but which DO NOT include additional digital receivers. I already have a Freeview receiver in my TV, and don’t need additional receivers.

i.e. Can you get Freeview recorders specifically made for Freeview built-in TVs?

Simple answer is no.
You can record via a normal VCR, but, you need to leave the TV on the station being watched, not on standby. All connections via a SCART lead.
I bought a cheap Freeview box and connected it to the VCR.
The only other way is to buy a built in Freeview VCR recorder, but it is a separate unit
and you said you don’t want that.
